Manifesto KUSU Mature Student Officer
Name
David Moylan.
Age
33.
Course/Year
2nd Year Computer Science/Network Communications .
What position are you standing for?
Mature Student Officer.
Why are you running?
I decided to run in this election as I honestly believe that one person can make a difference in the life's of the many. I also have some creative & bold ideas that I would like the chance to try out. Regardless of whether I get elected or not.
I am not a political person as such, just a normal average everyday guy with a big heart who cares about the greater good of others. I have the skills, experience, and confidence, that are necessary to carry out the role of Mature Student Officer. I would just like the opportunity by getting as many students to vote for me as possible.
What main things do you want to achieve during your time in office?
I realise there are many students who are not keen to voice what is important to them. Quite often we talk amongst friends at university, but on the bigger scale of things people can sometimes still feel as though their views go unmentioned and undocumented. I know that this was the case for me in my first year at times. This is why I would propose to facilitate a means for students to easily feedback their concerns on any matters that they feel is important to them as students.
My main obligations will be to represent the mature student population at Kingston University, and I will dedicate my efforts to being there for YOU the students. I will endeavour to help you with queries if you have them and will ensure that I am contactable and at your disposal.
I want to find out what is important to YOU as a institution of students, but more to the point PROVE IT. I aim to find out and prove what actually is the most heatedly debated issue in university that mature students find most important and would like to see solved. Be it Tuition fees, The recent funding cuts, Attacks on lecturers jobs, Prayer Space. Whatever your concerns are I will help and assist you.
I would like to assist you in, arranging focus groups, events and campaigns as well as introduce a new computerised system that you the students can use to feed back how you REALLY feel, without fear of being recognised.
In short my aims are relatively simple,
1. You the students already know what is important to you as individuals.
2. I want to attempt to facilitate a means for students to share their thoughts and opinions
3. Do this in a manner that would be suitable for the university
4. Convenient for students to give feedback indirectly or anonymously.
5. Useful tool to the Student Union, enabling Officers to more accurately represent the views of students.
Why do you think it is so important that students vote in the KUSU Elections?
I know and have seen that when it matters, and students feel that it is important to them, they can turn up in force and exercise a unified voice that is formidable. This was shown quite clearly at the last AGM when proposition 25 threatened to interrupt Wednesday afternoon sports. Although it is important to vote for what interests you as an individual or a group, it is also just as important to vote for the things that do not. Some propositions may not directly affect your future, but may have implications for future generations that follow in our footsteps. I think it is important to care about these people too, even if it is the case that we may never meet or see them. We are all so engaged in our own day to day life's that we rarely have the time, interest, or sometimes even desire to exercise our political choice/ voice/ vote. But I would like to ask you all to actively cast your votes for me and my team at the next election.
Many Thanks & Kind Regards
David Moylan
